OEC Statement on Clean Power Plan pause

Ohio Environmental Council, February 9, 2016

The OEC is extremely disappointed in the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to temporarily halt the Clean Power Plan – a common sense plan to cut pollution from dirty power plants while bringing more clean renewable energy to the Buckeye State.
Ohioans are already greatly benefiting from clean energy. Energy efficiency has saved Ohioans over $1 billion on their electric bills, and renewable energy industries in wind and solar support over 30,000 jobs in the state.
We’re confident the U.S. Supreme Court will eventually uphold the rule on its merits, and encourage the Ohio EPA to keep planning for the Clean Power Plan’s implementation. Any further delay in planning could jeopardize Ohio’s ability to implement a flexible, cost effective plan. The OEC looks forward to continue working with regulators on a plan that will clean up our air, lower energy bills, and create thousands of clean energy jobs.
