President Trump’s energy executive order puts U.S. behind the pack

Trish Demeter, March 28, 2017

In response to President Trump’s “Energy Independence” executive order, Trish Demeter, the OEC’s managing director of energy, issued the following statement:

“This isn’t energy independence. It’s energy ignorance. President Trump’s efforts to dismantle the U.S.’s first-ever limits on carbon pollution from power plants is a polluter-backed political attack on public health, national security, the economy, and the environment.

“The Clean Power Plan is fair, flexible and designed to strengthen the growing trend toward low-cost clean energy. Clean energy in Ohio supports 89,000 jobs, lowers electric bills, and helps to keep asthma-inducing pollution out of our children’s lungs.

“Climate change is an urgent threat and the Clean Power Plan is the most significant step our country has taken to address it. The Supreme Court has affirmed not once, but three times, that EPA has a duty to protect Americans from Carbon pollution. Today’s executive order shirks that responsibility.”
