Celebrating Power a Clean Future Ohio

Sarah Spence, February 26, 2021

In February, the OEC joined partners to celebrate the one year anniversary of Power a Clean Future Ohio, a bipartisan organization dedicated to working with local officials to develop equitable climate change solutions.

Ten Ohio cities—including Athens, Cincinnati, Dayton, Euclid, Lakewood, Lima, Lorain, Lancaster, Reynoldsburg, and Silverton—have already joined the Power a Clean Future Ohio movement and are committing to reduce their carbon emissions. While some of these cities are just starting to investigate and implement strategies to reduce pollution from dirty fossil fuel sources of the past, others are taking more advanced approaches to build upon their clean energy successes.

By joining the effort, these communities are connected with experts, who are working to provide tailored solutions to the variety of environmental challenges faced across the state. Community elected leaders can discuss their successes and challenges through the Peer Connections program, while city staff can learn more about individual policy topics through a monthly webinar series.

As one of many Power a Clean Future Ohio partners, the OEC is proud to provide technical and advocacy support to the effort, including development of the Ohio Clean Energy and Sustainable Communities Toolkit and the Equity Coaching for Sustainable Cities program

The success Power a Clean Future Ohio has had in its first year is a testament to the power of going local. Tackling climate change can feel overwhelming, but if we shift our perspective to appreciate and protect what’s in our own backyard, tangible change is achievable. Together, we are building momentum for a clean, prosperous, and healthy future for all Ohioans!
