Vote Yes on Issue 3 for #MetroParksForAll

Cassie Kelly, September 26, 2018

You have a chance to protect the Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks this November and fund some major upgrades to our 19 beautiful parks.

The Metro Parks have been primarily operating on the same levy for almost ten years, but it is set to expire in 2019. Under the new levy, the parks would be able to:

  • Build three new parks, including Quarry Trails located in the Grandview area.
  • Remodel nature centers at Blacklick Woods and Blendon Woods.
  • Reforest 1,000 acres, creating 500 acres of new wetlands, and reintroducing 500 acres of native prairie.
  • Build 100 miles of new trails.
  • Create new programs for senior citizens.
  • Allow overnight camping opportunities in the parks, including treehouse and yurt options.

By voting yes on Issue 3 in support of the Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks levy, you are voting for projects that would not only enhance our parks but provide valuable environmental, social, and economic benefits to our community.

We know that green spaces reduce stress and elevate a person’s mood, as well as encourage exercise. On an economic scale, parks increase property values, encourage tourism, and bring new homeowners into communities. Parks are a critical solution for maintaining a healthy environment in an urban landscape and help filter air and water from unwanted pollutants. They also increase biodiversity and protect native wildlife habitats from development.

Make your pledge to vote yes on Issue 3 so that we can promise future generations will walk the same trails that we know and love today!
