The Ohio Environmental Council seeks a full­-time Administrative Assistant to provide critical administrative, customer service, finance, and IT support to the entire organization. The Administrative Assistant represents the organization at events, on the phone, and digitally as well as ensures the smooth operation of the staff’s administrative needs. 

The ideal candidate has a strong attention to detail, excellent customer service, is technologically savvy, and eager to train and assist a professional staff. This position is an opportunity to play a central role within a fast-­paced, growing organization.


Job Responsibilities

The Administrative Assistant reports to the Deputy Director and is responsible for the following: 

  • Providing customer service and tracking the high volume of incoming and outgoing communications via phone, mail, email, and in-person;
  • Managing the OEC’s Google apps, office equipment, and other technology including performing general tech support and training;
  • Entering expenses into Quickbooks;
  • Maintaining the inventory of supplies for the organization; 
  • Facility and office management; 
  • Developing administrative procedures for the organization; and 
  • General operational support


Performance Expectations 

As a member of the operations team, the Administrative Assistant helps to ensure the productivity of the entire organization.

The Administrative Assistant must: 

Be an expert task manager. The Administrative Assistant must synthesize information coming from all directions, distill what is important, plan and meet deadlines, and coordinate actions by others. This requires great attention to detail, ability to track projects and coordinate smoothly with others.

Have excellent communication skills. They must both work seamlessly with a wide range of staff in various positions, but also perform top-notch customer service in the office and at events for VIPs and members of the public.

Understand current office technology and productivity equipment and software. The Administrative Assistant will manage Google Apps, troubleshoot technology issues, coordinate with the IT consultant, and recommend technology needs.

Demonstrate initiative and work as a team player. They should approach new ideas with a sense of possibility and be a proactive problem-solver.



  • Demonstrable customer service skills;
  • Previous success in providing administrative and technical support including task management and documentation;
  • A belief that our mission matters and that the protection of Ohio’s air, land, and water should be a priority among decision-makers;
  • Ideal candidates will have experience in a non-profit or political organization; and
  • Ability to work 40+ hours per week, plus occasional nights and weekends.



This is an hourly position paying $15 to $16.50 per hour plus occasional overtime. Excellent benefits include health, vision, dental, and life insurance, flexible and dependent care spending account, generous paid time off, and employer-matched retirement fund.
