The Ohio Environmental Council family of organizations seeks to fill the new position of Cleveland Metro Area Regional Director in Cuyahoga County. The Regional Director will work with members, partners, and community groups to protect Ohio’s air, land, and water at the local, state, and federal level. The ideal candidate will be a community leader who can serve as the OEC ambassador to new networks as well as build long-lasting relationships in the region.


Key Responsibilities

The Cleveland Metro Area Director reports to the External Affairs Managing Director and is responsible for the following:

  • Building a strong and sustainable team advocating on energy, land, air, water, and democracy issues, grounding in environmental justice, health, and racial equity.
  • Developing collaborative relationships with key, community leaders, decision makers, and business leaders who can help advance strategic policies that impact the region.
  • Organizing and attending events and meetings in the community to build engagement in Cuyahoga County.
  • Recruiting, training, organizing, and motivating community leaders and activists to help build the power of the Ohio environmental movement.

  • A commitment to the region and raising the profile of environmental issues impacting the area and our state at large.
  • A track record of inspiring action, building a team, and ability to break down complex issues into calls to action.
  • Effective time management skills, including prioritizing and managing multiple projects, and demonstrated experience in developing personal work plans and goals.
  • Organizing, advocacy, or community leadership experience.
  • Commitment to diverse and equitable power-building. Knowledge of social and environmental justice preferred.
  • Ability to work long hours and weekends as required.



Salary for this position is $65,000 – $70,000. Excellent benefits include employer-paid health, vision, dental, and life insurance; flexible and dependent care spending account; generous paid time off; and employer-matched retirement fund.
