Title: Executive Director
Hours of work: 30 per week
Pay range: $17 per hour ($26,500 annual)
Job Summary:
Friends of Lower Muskingum River is a 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to protect and conserve
the Lower Muskingum watershed for all to enjoy. FLMR promotes environmental stewardship and
conservation through conservation easements, educational programs, volunteer opportunities, and
maintenance of approximately 260 acres of natural areas. Increased environmental challenges in SE Ohio
and a desire to become accredited with the Land Trust Alliance has led FLMR to seek an Executive

The Executive Director is responsible for strategic planning, fundraising, volunteer coordination, and
liaison with the community, regional and national organizations, and the membership. The position
reports directly to the Board of Directors.

Essential functions:

  • Work with the Board of Directors and members on strategic planning and implementation;
  • Identify funding sources and raise funding from outside sources to ensure the organization’s long-
    term financial sustainability;
  • Lead donor development and communications strategies;
  • Prepare quarterly newsletters and an annual report for approval by the Board of Directors;
  • Serve as an effective spokesperson for FLMR and chief liaison with other regional and national
    organizations and key constituent groups, partners, and advisory groups;
  • Recruit, coordinate, and oversee volunteers and members in monitoring, community outreach,
    and environmental activities;
  • Work with Board of Directors to ensure that mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic
    planning, and community outreach.
  • Knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Demonstrated record of fundraising in private, corporate, foundation, and government sectors;
  • Understanding of nonprofit fiscal management, including fund accounting and budgeting;
  • Demonstrated ability in public speaking, written and oral communication, and interpersonal
    relationships with a history of successful collaborations with community partners;
  • Strong problem solving and organizational skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and coordinate diverse volunteers of different ages, abilities,
    and backgrounds;
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Publisher to create newsletters and annual reports;

Minimum requirements:
2-5 years of experience in a leadership position in a comparable organization (private, nonprofit,
or public), including working with a board of directors and overseeing staff or volunteers;
Bachelor’s degree and/or extensive experience in local and regional community organizing,
fundraising, and public outreach
