OEC Action Fund: Government Affairs Internship

Time Commitment: 15 hours minimum per week
Schedule: flexible over 10-12 weeks, Summer 2020
Location Columbus, Ohio

The Ohio Environmental Council (OEC) Action Fund is looking for an intern to join our government affairs team. The intern will have opportunities to be part of the broader nonprofit organization, attend staff and policy meetings, and develop research and writing skills. 


  • Research legislative positions and votes of Ohio General Assembly members
  • Help track legislation
  • Assist in researching environmental positions of members of the General Assembly and Administration 
  • Assist in scheduling meetings
  • Proofing legislative testimony and fact sheets
  • Shadow advocacy team members in meetings with partners, lawmakers and agency representatives as well as committee hearings at the Statehouse 
  • Participate in 2020 intern cohort activities

This internship is a volunteer, unpaid position. Applicants are encouraged to seek funding from a sponsoring organization such as a university. Staff will work with you during the application process to provide you with any necessary documentation to assist you with acquiring funding. 


  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Able to work independently and on a team
  • Strong editing and proofreading skills are highly desirable
  • Knowledge of political and legislative processes preferred
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google Suite
