RURAL RENEWAL AMERICORPS VISTA – ENERGY & ECONOMY (ATHENS, OH)

Estimated Start Time: October 25, 2021 – position offered before October.

SOPEC is seeking an AmeriCorps VISTA member for service starting in late October 2021. Our VISTA member will serve to increase residents’ access to information about sustainable energy choices, encouraging energy conservation throughout the SOPEC region, with the opportunity to advance K-12 clean energy education, lead efforts to improve solar readiness in SOPEC member communities, and use tools to track SOPEC customers’ green power usage and environmental benefits.

SOUTHEAST OHIO COMMUNITY LIAISON (SE OHIO)

The Sustainable Ohio Public Energy Council (SOPEC) seeks candidates for the position of Southeast Ohio Community Liaison. The position is new in the rapidly growing non-profit Ohio Council of Governments. SOPEC was established in 2014 and serves 21 member communities and other political subdivisions across 33 counties. The position will assist in the continued development of, and growth and service to, SOPEC member communities. SOPEC has a strong commitment to sustainability and the advancement of the renewable energy economy. SOPEC is governed by the communities it serves.

The SOPEC Southeast Community Liaison position will primarily be focused on serving SOPEC member communities in Southeast Ohio. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Serving local member communities, and attending local governance meetings at least once a quarter or as otherwise determined, including evening meetings.
  • Engaging with SOPEC Board of Directors and General Assembly members from the communities, and assisting with the SOPEC community grant program.
  • Helping promote and increase participation in SOPEC programs within communities (i.e. REDA solar program, Public Pricing Program, electric aggregation).
  • Assisting community members and local officials.
  • Regularly attending local Chamber, Mainstreet, and other community and regional meetings and events.
  • Assisting in new member recruitment and processes.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution in political science, Appalachian studies, environmental studies, marketing, economics, business, public administration, or another relevant field. Relevant experience in conjunction with a degree in a non-related field will also be considered.

The candidate must live or be willing to relocate to Southeast Ohio. Experience and familiarity of working in the Appalachian region is desired. The candidate must have a valid driver’s license and a vehicle to travel throughout the Southeast Ohio region as required.

The candidate must have a commitment to a sustainable, and equitable energy future for the region. Some travel is required, with mileage reimbursed by SOPEC. Professional development opportunities are available.

The position is full-time and benefits-eligible including a required contribution by employee and employer to the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System. Compensation commensurate with experience. A background check will be required. The position will report to Executive Director.
