Southwest Ohio Regional Coordinator/Director — The Ohio Environmental Council

The Ohio Environmental Council family of organizations seeks a new addition to our growing Field Advocacy team. This position will be located in Southwest Ohio and focus primarily on the Cincinnati community. The OEC is committed to developing the next generation of environmental leaders. As such, we have designed this position to be accessible to both entry- and mid-level professionals. Based on skill-set and level of experience, the position is open for both a coordinator or director level roles. 

The Regional Coordinator will build power, presence, and relationships throughout the Queen City region. The Regional Coordinator will organize members, partners, and community groups to get involved and make protection of Ohio’s land, air, and water a priority of local and state leaders. The ideal candidate will be an emerging community leader who can serve as the OEC ambassador to new networks as well as build long-lasting relationships with our members in the region. This position is an opportunity to become the local resource on advocacy and the environment and to build strong relationships with elected officials, partner organizations, grasstops leaders, and champions. 

Building off of the work as described above, a Regional Director would also build and maintain key relationships with local elected officials, high level community stakeholders, and conduct an intensive listening session campaign and create an environmental policy platform. The SWO Regional Director would also be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with OEC Board Members and a regional specific donor portfolio.   

Key Responsibilities

The Southwest Regional Coordinator reports to the Managing Field Director and is responsible for the following:

  • Organizing and attending community events and meetings in the community that build the OEC’s presence in Southwest Ohio.
  • Working with staff to develop authentic relationships with community members and issue leaders.

The Southwest Regional Director reports to the Managing Field Director and is responsible for the following:

  • Coordinate efforts between  a strong and sustainable internal team and external coalition partners, advocating on energy, land, democracy, and water issues;
  • Working with staff to develop authentic relationships with key partners, local opinion leaders, elected officials, and business leaders who can play important, strategic roles in the OEC family of organizations;
  • Utilizing the Jemez Principles to conduct listening sessions to create Cincinnati specific listing of community environmental policy needs.

  • A commitment to the region and raising the profile of environmental issues impacting the area and our state at large;
  • The ability to inspire action and to break down complex issues into calls to action;
  • Effective time management skills, including prioritizing and managing multiple projects;
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as needed;

Salary for this position is $36,774.40-$55,000 and is within the bargaining unit represented by the OEC Workers United.
