The Wayne National Forest is an important part of every Ohioan’s heritage. Early settlers relied on the Wayne for food and timber. Escaped slaves used the Wayne on their trail to freedom. Coal was mined from the hills to power the U.S. into the Industrial Revolution. Now, for so many, the Wayne National Forest serves as a retreat from the chaos of modern life.
The Wayne National Forest has given us so much. This #GivingTuesday, we are asking “What will we give in return?”
#GivingTuesday, the worldwide day of giving, harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities, and organizations to encourage philanthropy and celebrate generosity.
This year, we are dedicating our #GivingTuesday to celebrate the gift of Wayne National Forest and harness the power of Ohioans to protect the Wayne now and into the future.
The OEC is litigating in court to stop fracking and oil and gas development on 40,000 acres of the Wayne, Ohio’s only national forest. Apparently, our lawsuit is drawing some buzz because the American Petroleum Institute, the largest special interest group for the natural gas industry, recently entered the case to go head-to-head with us in court.
When you give to the OEC on #GivingTuesday, you will help us build our campaign to save the Wayne. The best part is your gift will be triple-matched by a group of generous donors. That means your gift will have three times the impact for the Wayne and Ohio’s other special places.
Not only will your gift support our attorneys, it will help us reach out to thousands more Ohioans and build a strong army for the Wayne and all of Ohio’s public lands. But we can’t do this without your support on #GivingTuesday.
Last year, we raised $39,622 on #GivingTuesday. This #GivingTuesday, we want to raise $55,000 to build our public lands program and continue our fight to save the Wayne. By raising this much, we have the potential to reach 55,000 new Ohioans and future public lands advocates.
To meet this goal, we need 1,000 people to pledge to give $20 on #GivingTuesday to have their donation triple-matched. Will you be one of them?
