Buried Treasure at Risk

Cassie Kelly, March 29, 2019

In 1986, the OEC published a massive legal, scientific, and policy review of the threats to our groundwater called “Buried Treasure at Risk.” This publication outlined the issues with our groundwater, which 40% of Ohioans relied on for drinking water. After the review, the Ohio EPA established the Office of Groundwater Protection, which allocated funding and regulations for our groundwater. Today, that office is called the Division of Drinking and Ground Waters and monitors more than 4,800 public drinking water systems in the state.
