Ohio Environmental Council, January 24, 2014
Hundreds of people are expected to clear their homes and business of old computers, cell phones and other discarded electronic devices at a special recycling event for electronic waste this Saturday in Columbus.
The event offers more than just a convenient solution to clear basements and offices of electronic clutter. It also offers homeowners and businesses:
A secure way to dispose of computers and cell phones that may store credit card numbers and other personal data. The recyclers will “wipe” personal data from all devices, in accordance with industry standards, as validated by independent third-party auditors.
A safe way to recycle electronic waste, which can contain lead and other toxic compounds. All materials are fully recycled back into the manufacturing stream and are guaranteed not to be disposed of in a landfill. All equipment is processed in full compliance with Environmental Protection Agency standards.
A productive way to put people with disabilities to work, safely disassembling and preparing electronic components for recycling.
The following e-waste can be dropped off on Saturday: computers, CD monitors, laptops, printers, cell phones, fax machines and PDAs.
