Ohio Environmental Council Honored with 2021 Inspiring Efficiency Award

CHICAGO – The Ohio Environmental Council (OEC) was recognized with an award yesterday from the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (MEEA) as part of their 17th annual Inspiring Efficiency Awards. The OEC takes home the 2021 Leadership Award for working to defend and advance energy efficiency policy in Ohio.

The OEC has a long-standing commitment to energy efficiency and has worked to educate decision makers at the local, state and national level on the economic significance of the energy efficiency industry and the importance of policies that support the industry’s vitality. The statewide environmental advocacy organization has intervened in countless utility regulatory processes and fought against regressive energy efficiency policies in Ohio, including House Bill 6. The OEC recently worked with partners to release a new major study, Estimating the Benefits of Energy Waste Reduction in Ohio.

“Ohioans deserve access to energy efficiency programs because they benefit our economy and our pocketbooks, they reduce pollution which leads to better health outcomes, and they create local jobs,” said Miranda Leppla, OEC Vice President for Energy Policy. “We’re grateful for this recognition and pledge to continue our work to secure these important energy waste reduction programs for all who call Ohio home.”

Winners were recognized during a virtual awards ceremony on March 23, 2021. The 2021 Inspiring Efficiency Award winners have shown exemplary leadership in advancing energy efficiency across the Midwest. Award recipients have made advancements in energy efficiency in six categories: Leadership, Education, Impact, Innovation, Marketing and the annual Chairman’s Award.

“This year’s Inspiring Efficiency Award winners have proven to be champions of energy efficiency within their communities, especially in these times of challenge and uncertainty,” said MEEA Executive Directory Stacey Paradis. “The Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance is proud to recognize and honor the commitment of the Ohio Environmental Council to fight for energy efficiency programs in the Buckeye State.”
