Statement from the Ohio Environmental Council on FirstEnergy’s coal plant closure announcement

Columbus, OH — The following statement can be attributed in full, or in part, to Trish Demeter, Vice President of Energy Policy of the Ohio Environmental Council:

“If there were any question that coal is on its way out, FirstEnergy’s announcement to close its remaining coal plants in Ohio and Pennsylvania clears it up. We are squarely in the center of a very real transition to cleaner, more efficient sources for electricity. Now, more than ever, we need to be taking actions that will help affected communities not only weather the transition, but secure a more sustainable and prosperous future.”
