Energy Intern

Time Commitment: 20 -25 hours per week

Schedule: May 31, 2021 for 10 weeks (flexible start and end date permitted)

Location: Columbus, Ohio

Supervisor: Miranda Leppla, Vice President of Energy

Deadline: March 1, 2021 

Remote WFH permitted, in-office work preferred, pending COVID-19 circumstances.

The Ohio Environmental Council (OEC) seeks an intern to be part of our energy team for seasonal summer employment. Their portfolio of work will be focused on research, advocacy writing, and event planning. This internship will provide opportunities to build skills around coalition-building, policy analysis, and media outreach in Ohio.

Responsibilities

Assist the OEC’s energy team to research policy opportunities, develop written communications, attend relevant legislative committee hearings, and plan events. The work will include:

  • Research and analyze energy policies affecting Ohio communities
  • Assist with any energy-related special events (virtual or in-person)
  • Develop public-facing fact sheets on various energy policies such as community solar, aggregation, electric vehicle charging stations, or other energy topics as assigned
  • Write an opinion editorial or letter-to-the-editor about the importance of regulating and reducing methane pollution 
  • Shadow energy team members in meetings with partners, lawmakers, and agency representatives as well as committee hearings at local city halls, Statehouse, and/or PUCO (virtually or in-person)

Compensation

This internship is a paid seasonal position and will receive an hourly wage of $13 for 20 – 25 hours a week.

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Able to work independently and on a team
  • Strong editing and proofreading skills are highly desirable
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google Suite
