Founded in 2007, Green Columbus’ mission is to promote sustainable living in Central Ohio. Annually, Green Columbus hosts Earth Day Columbus, which is the organization’s signature event and the largest gathering of volunteers for Earth Day in the United States. Green Columbus also organizes Central Ohio’s monthly Green Drinks event (on hold since March 2020 but resuming mid-2022) – informational gatherings and networking events focusing on sustainability. Green Columbus is currently led and managed by a volunteer Board of Directors and one full-time staff person (the Executive Director) with occasional contract support for events as needed.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Green Columbus Executive Director (ED) is a full time (40 hours/week) contract position and will have overall operational responsibility for Green Columbus’s programs, fundraising, expansion and execution of its mission. They will develop deep knowledge of field, core programs, operations, and business plans while maintaining day-to-day operations and administrative functions. They should be a self starter who can define and grow this position for the organization.
The ideal candidate will prioritize activities which fund the position and organization, particularly by building strong relationships with sponsors/donors which provide stable and predictable funding for organizational programming. They will work virtually, with personal technology assets, to conduct said business remotely (Green Columbus does not have physical office space). The final candidate must successfully complete a reference and background check and provide own transportation for business travel (expense reimbursement available). The position requires weekend and evening attendance at events and the successful candidate will have a flexible schedule to accommodate Green Columbus events, programming and donor visits.
This position will pay a monthly contract amount of $4000-$4500. As a 1099 contract position, employee is responsible for their own healthcare benefits and taxes. The contractor will also be eligible for a performance-based bonus of up to $5000 contingent upon continuous employment from January-May 2023 and successful completion of Earth Day service & celebration.
Work hours and days are flexible as long as job responsibilities are met. In-person meetings and events will be located in Central Ohio but day-to-day work location is flexible.
