Northeast Ohio Regional Director

The Ohio Environmental Council family of organizations seeks a new addition to our Field Advocacy team. This position will be located in Northeast Ohio and focus primarily on the Akron / Mahoning Valley communities. 

The Northeast Ohio Regional Director has historically focused on local methods of mitigating climate change and propelling Ohio’s clean energy future. As such, experience in both field organizing and energy advocacy (community aggregation, electric vehicles, energy efficiency, etc.) is a strong plus. As part of the larger statewide Field Advocacy Team, the Regional Director would be working at the intersection of local advocacy and local energy policy alongside our partners such as Power a Clean Future Ohio (PCFO). Candidates with a history of other types of advocacy and/or work dedicated to land, water, and democracy also are encouraged to apply. 

The Regional Director would build and maintain key relationships with local elected officials, high level community stakeholders, and work with local partners alongside OEC staff to propel environmental protections for the greater Northeast Ohio region. The NEO Regional Director would also be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with OEC Board Members and a regional specific donor portfolio.   

Job Responsibilities

The Northeast Regional Director reports to the Managing Field Director and is responsible for the following:

  • Advance policies that protect the air, water, land and democracy in northeast Ohio locally and by connecting relevant sustainability issues to the Ohio Statehouse and Congress;
  • Organizing and attending community events and meetings in the community that build the OEC’s presence in Northeast Ohio;
  • Coordinate efforts between a strong and sustainable internal team and external coalition partners, advocating on energy, land, democracy, and water issues;
  • Working with staff to develop authentic relationships with key partners, local opinion leaders, elected officials, and business leaders who can play important, strategic roles in the OEC family of organizations.

  • Develop and maintain valuable partnerships with community members and leaders. 


  • Ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders and build a team;  
  • A commitment to the region and raising the profile of environmental issues impacting the area and our state at large;
  • The ability to inspire action and to break down complex issues into calls to action;
  • Effective time management skills, including prioritizing and managing multiple projects;
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as needed;
  • Shares our commitment to increasing racial diversity in our movement and organization, integrating justice and equity into the work we do and ensuring an inclusive organizational culture.
  • Experience in energy advocacy (community aggregation, electric vehicles, community energy efficiency, etc.) is a strong plus.


Salary for this position is $42,001-$55,000 and is within the bargaining unit represented by the OEC Workers United.
