Public Relations and Social Media Intern (Green Columbus)

Green Columbus is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting sustainable living in Central Ohio and globally.

Position Description

The Public Relations and Social Media Intern will work under the Earth Day communications director to manage and enhance Green Columbus’ social media presence and increase the organization’s number of online community members by developing and sharing environment- and sustainability-related content prior to the 2019 Earth Day Celebration. The intern may also be called on assist staff with photographing events, producing and copyediting marketing materials, distributing printed materials, contributing articles to owned media channels, and other duties as assigned.

The intern should expect to work 8-10 hours per week in early 2019 with hours steadily increasing to 15-20 hours per week closer to the Earth Day 2019 Celebration in late April. Hours will be flexible with many chances to work remotely.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with the development of content and marketing materials for Earth Day events
  • Developing articles on recycling, green living, and other environmental and sustainability-related topics to engage with the community prior to Earth Day
  • Conducting interviews with environmental groups and local businesses about Earth Day and sustainability-related work
  • Sharing content on social media and growing Green Columbus’ online community

Qualifications:

  • Strong personal commitment to social justice and the environment
  • Experience with social media management, communications, writing, and research
  • Some experience in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field gained at previous internships, jobs, or student publications
  • Strong work ethic, dependable, detail-oriented, well organized
  • Self-starter, ability to work independently and as an effective team member
  • Basic graphic design, photography, and content management skills a plus

Deadline to apply is Friday, November 16. Position will begin in early January.

This is an unpaid internship. Academic credit for the internship may be available with permission from your academic unit.
