Columbus, Ohio — The following statement can be attributed to Heather Taylor-Miesle, Executive Director of the Ohio Environmental Council:
“The Ohio Environmental Council supports fairly drawn districts, because when voters are able to pick their elected officials, decision-makers will be forced to care about the issues voters need addressed. We know that Ohioans deeply care about their environment and the health of their communities, which means elected officials should as well.
“We look forward to reviewing the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) case arguing that Ohio’s current congressional districts are unfair. As evidenced by our involvement in the coalition which passed Issue 1, we want to make sure every voter is heard.
“Regardless of this case, the OEC is eager to work with stakeholders on both sides of the aisle to implement the Issue 1 guidelines to ensure legislative districts are truly fair and representative of the voters within them.”
