Statement from the Ohio Environmental Council on the Trump Administration’s Infrastructure Plan

David Miller, February 13, 2018

The following statement can be attributed in full, or in part, to Melanie Houston, Director of Climate Programs at the Ohio Environmental Council:

“The Trump Administration’s just-released infrastructure plan includes a proposal to green-light pipeline development in our National Parks. This is an unfortunate direction, because our parks may never return to their pristine state once pipeline development scars them.

“We’ve seen numerous environmentally damaging spills during the troubled construction of the Rover Pipeline across Ohio. The last thing we want to see is a major spill in Ohio’s own Cuyahoga Valley National Park. This portion of the Trump Administration’s infrastructure proposal brings that risk much closer to reality. Speeding up pipeline construction in our National Park System would be a reckless choice, and I hope that Ohio’s congressional delegation instead moves to ensure this provision will not be included in the bill put forth in Congress.”
