Legal Internship (Spring and Summer)

Hours per Week: 10 – 20 hours

The Ohio Environmental Council wants to support the next generation of environmental legal champions. We are seeking legal interns for seasonal summer employment with a passion for environmental justice and the writing/research skills necessary to join the OEC’s Law Center.

Responsibilities: 

Legal Interns will assist the organization’s Law Center with its numerous projects related to Energy, Democracy, Water, Lands, and other matters of nonprofit law. Potential work product could include the following activities:

  • Research legal questions that support the OEC’s cases in various venues, particularly the Ohio Power Siting Board and the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio
  • Assist in drafting comments regarding proposed administrative rulemakings at the Ohio EPA, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, and other agencies
  • Write memos analyzing important issues in 501(c)(3) nonprofit law, elections law, and voter protection
  • Explore complex environmental legal questions that further the OEC’s mission

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled at an ABA accredited law school
  • Strong passion for public interest law 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Able to work Independently and on a team
  • Strong editing and proofreading skills are highly desirable
  • Adheres to the highest ethical standards
  • Conducts work through the lens of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion to ensure all Ohioans have equal access to the environmental movement.

Compensation:

The paid internship is a seasonal position and will receive an hourly wage of $15 for up to 20 hours a week.
