INTERNSHIP POSTING: Water Advocacy Intern

Time Commitment: 20-30 hours per week

Start Date: June 6, 2022 for 10 weeks

Location Columbus, Ohio 

The Ohio Environmental Council (OEC) seeks a water advocacy intern to be part of our water team for seasonal summer employment. Their portfolio of work will be focused on research and analysis, building content for lawmaker education and coalition partner meetings, and virtual event planning. This internship will provide opportunities to build skills around coalition-building, policy analysis, and advocacy writing.

Responsibilities  

Assist the OEC’s water policy team to research policy opportunities, develop written communications, view or attend relevant (virtual) legislative committee hearings and meetings, and plan events. The work will include:

  • Planning one public-facing, water-themed virtual event 
  • Write an opinion editorial related to one of the OEC’s active water campaigns
  • Research and write a memo or toolkit on water infrastructure funding opportunities for local governments 
  • Shadow water team members in (virtual) meetings with partners, lawmakers and agency representatives as well as committee hearings at the Statehouse 
  • Participate in 2022 OEC intern cohort activities
  • Keep the state legislative tracker up to date for relevant water legislation in the Ohio General Assembly

Compensation

This internship is a paid seasonal position and will receive an hourly wage of $13 for 20 – 25 hours a week.

Qualifications 

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Able to work independently and on a team
  • Strong proficiency in Google Suite

  • Strong editing and proofreading skills are highly desirable
