Ohioans Came out Big for Earth Day!

Cassie Kelly, April 24, 2018

A special thanks for helping us crush our Earth Day fundraising goal!

This Earth Day, and every day, the OEC is proud to fight for the issues that keep Ohio communities clean and beautiful. We’re fighting for better policies and bridging conversations so that Ohioans can enjoy a clean and safe future for many generations to come. This year, we asked for our supporters to chip in to help fight on three urgent issues:

  • Keeping fracking out of the Wayne National Forest
  • Ensuring Ohio’s clean energy future by blocking anti-clean energy legislation
  • Safeguarding Lake Erie from yet another record-breaking toxic algae bloom

We set an ambitious goal to raise $12,000 by the end of Earth Day and a group of generous donors stepped up with a triple-match opportunity. In total we raised over $16,000, not including the triple match! As one of the newer OECers, I’m completely blown away by the generosity of our supporters and so proud to be a part of this vibrant, growing movement.

With these funds, we’re equipped to launch a statewide campaign to keep drilling out of the Wayne National Forest, keep our experts at the Statehouse leading the charge for clean energy innovation, and fight for protections that will put a stop to algae-causing pollution flowing into Lake Erie.

We got to see the generosity of Ohioans in other ways this Earth Day, too. We asked our friends on Instagram to celebrate Ohio’s natural beauty by using the hashtag #OneEarthOneOhio. In return, we are featuring some of the best submissions in this week’s blog. Take a look at the amazing places found in Ohio and follow these talented photographers for more!

Together we can make sure tomorrow’s Ohioans can share the same beautiful photos of our special home.
