Executive Order to Streamline and Expedite Notification Following Oil and Gas Incidents

Ohio Environmental Council, August 9, 2016

Governor Kasich signed an executive order today aimed at streamlining the notification process following an incident at an oil and gas operation. In response to this executive order, the Ohio Environmental Council’s Director of Oil and Gas, Melanie Houston issued the following statement.
“We are still analyzing the language, but we are encouraged to see Governor Kasich issue this much needed executive order. When things go wrong at an oil and gas site, the right safety forces need to know, and they need to know fast.”
“Ensuring the health and safety of those living and working nearby, and protecting the air and water from the aftermath of an incident is critical. This one-phone-call approach should speed up response times and, as a result, make Ohioans safer.”
