OEC Welcomes New Political Director Spencer Dirrig

Columbus, OH — The Ohio Environmental Council (OEC) announced today that Spencer Dirrig will serve as the organization’s new Political Director.

“We are thrilled to welcome Spencer Dirrig as our new Political Director,” said Heather Taylor-Miesle, executive director of the OEC and president of the OEC Action Fund. “Spencer’s past political advocacy experience and tremendous demonstrated leadership will help advance our mission to fight climate change and to secure healthy air, land, and water for all who call Ohio home.”

As Political Director, Dirrig will direct OEC’s advocacy campaigns and nonpartisan voter participation work to build a powerful, grassroots environmental movement in Ohio. He will also support the political activities of the OEC’s affiliated 501(C)(4) organization, the OEC Action Fund. He will start working with the organizations on Monday, February 8.

A native Ohioan, Dirrig joins the OEC having most recently served as President of Breakthrough Advising. An experienced political organizer, he has managed numerous campaigns throughout Central Ohio on the local, state and federal level, including Crystal Lett for Ohio Senate and Louise Valentine for Ohio Senate. Dirrig volunteers as the Vice Chair of the Asian American Pacific Islander Caucus for the Young Democrats of America and on the Stonewall Democrats of Central Ohio PAC Board.

“I am elated to join the OEC and OEC Action Fund team at such a critical time for the future of our climate,” said Dirrig. “I look forward to working with leaders across our state to protect our environment, strengthen our democracy, and fight for the health of our communities.”
