This week, we are highlighting George “G.K.” Richards, former OEC Board President and steadfast environmental champion. G.K.’s interest in the OEC was piqued by his concern for the wellbeing of The Wayne National Forest. During his tenure in the 80’s, G.K. tirelessly advocated for the protection of the Wayne and helped establish the first Green Gala to bring more people into the OEC’s mission. He also founded our Richards Scenic Rivers Fund, which hires a summer intern to work in partnership with Ohio DNR Scenic River program each year. G.K.’s love for scenic rivers began with his late wife and his children on the Olentangy river undertaking water quality sampling. His children’s and his love for these high quality rivers carries on today.
