Statement From the Ohio Environmental Council on the Farm Bill Passage

Columbus, Ohio — The US House of Representatives joined the Senate today in approving the Farm Bill. This legislation removed many of the controversial provisions that had slowed down discussions throughout 2018, including reductions to conservation funding, anti-environmental riders, and changes to SNAP work requirements. The bill now heads to the president for his signature. The following statement can be attributed in full, or in part, to Peter Bucher, Water Resources Director at the Ohio Environmental Council:

“The passage of the Farm Bill finally gives stability to Ohio industries depending on guidance and protections for our water, and keeps the foundation of our agricultural conservation efforts intact.

“I applaud the work done by Sen. Sherrod Brown and Rep. Marcia Fudge in the conference committee to secure provisions that will help combat toxic algae, improve water quality, and protect drinking water. This measure will help ensure that we make smarter conservation decisions that truly provide the biggest benefits to Ohio waterways, and ultimately protect public health.”
