Northeast Ohio Updates from the Field – November

Letter from the Regional Director:

End of Year Updates – November 30, 2022

Hello, my dear friends in the fight!

Here we are entering December! This year has surely gone fast. As I begin to look back at 2022, I have no choice but to smile at the work we put into advancing OEC’s mission in the Mahoning Valley. As 2023 rapidly approaches, I look forward to meeting some new faces as we advance this region’s work beyond the Mahoning Valley. Below are some highlights from the work we will continue to do.

Sincerely,

Christopher L. Colón, MPH, LSW
Northeast Ohio Regional Director

Please join us for our second session in a three-part series designed to build new leaders in the Mahoning Valley! Sign up to attend.

Regional Updates:

The first session entitled “Who Makes the Decisions?” was held November 12. Our own Spencer Dirrig, OEC’s Political Director, led the conversation at Rockford Village’s Envision Center. Participants learned about the three branches of government and how each branch’s work affects the lives of American citizens. Partner organization United Returning Citizens also provided an expungement clinic prior to the presentation.

We also continue to monitor the SOBE Thermal developments in Youngstown. While OEC continues to take no official stance on the project, we are committed to ongoing dialogue with stakeholders to monitor for developments as a council to city and community leaders. There was a community meeting held recently. You can view the meeting at this link.
