AmeriCorps is a National Service program that engages members in unique service opportunities to address needs in their communities. Members serve a total of 1,700 hours over a period of one year. The Central Ohio Collaborative for Conservation partners with 6 agencies in central Ohio where AmeriCorps Members will be placed, to improve local ecosystems and increase resilience against climate change. These partners include: Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks, Friends of the Olentangy Watershed, Grange Audubon Center, Licking County Soil and Water Conservation District, and Stratford Ecological Center.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in developing and implementing environmental education programs.
- Assist in developing and distributing outreach materials for public, local government, and business.
- Assist conservation staff with occasional field projects such as tree planting and invasive removal.
- Work with volunteers at your host site to do environmental stewardship projects.
- Assist with host site events.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 17 years of age by their start date on October 1, 2023
- Must have a HS Diploma or GED certificate.
- Members must be able to pass a criminal, FBI, and DMV background check (Note: having a background does not automatically exclude them from membership).
- Members must accept the position as a full-time priority and be able to complete 1700 hours of service.
- The ability to safely traverse and navigate through rough and brushy terrain with ticks and poison ivy in the summer heat while carrying GPS equipment is required.
- Able to demonstrate some knowledge of or an appreciation for natural resource conservation.
- Able to secure transportation to and from work and events.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
- Familiarity with popular computer software (including, but not limited to, MS Word, Excel, and Publisher).
- Able to take direction and respond positively to feedback.
