The Ohio Environmental Council (OEC) seeks a Scenic River Intern to assist with the OEC’s Scenic River work. The Intern will work with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources in Central Ohio to assist in holding Stream Quality Monitoring (SQM) trainings, assist at SQM / Scenic Rivers public programming, collecting data on Scenic Rivers, entering in the data into a water quality monitoring database, and assist with invasive species management as needed.

Responsibilities:

• Assist Scenic River Coordinators to plan and implement Stream Quality Monitoring (SQM) trainings
• Collect data using SQM on streams around the state
• Assist with invasive species management
• Trash cleanups
• Creation of blogs for the newsletter highlighting
• Capturing photos of programming, the rivers, and the bugs for use in ODNR outreach materials
• Assisting with other Scenic Rivers regional work if scheduling allows
• Support volunteer workshops

Qualifications:

• Biology background in aquatic entomology and knowledge of macroinvertebrates preferred but not required
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills

• Detail-oriented
• Access to a car for travel

Additional Details:

The Intern will be paid $10.10 per hour and will work at least 10 hours per week. The schedule will be flexible depending on the Intern’s availability and agency needs. Extension of the internship at reduced hours may be possible.

Ohio’s environmental movement is seeking its next generation of environmental advocates, representing the diversity of perspectives, and backgrounds from across the state, especially those from communities most impacted by pollution. Therefore, the Ohio Environmental Council seeks candidates for its Political Fellowship—a full-time, temporary, entry-level position for up to 2 years. This position is designed specifically to include and uplift the talents of entry-level professionals from communities and backgrounds often left out of the environmental movement. 

Responsibilities:

• Conduct research and develop written materials to convey complex concepts effectively
• Communicate directly with public officials, partners, funders, and other stakeholders, and document legislator and elected official interactions and guide follow-up plans 
• Support the drafting of advocacy content, including position statements and blogs
• Representing the organization at public meetings, political events, and partner spaces
• Conduct research for and support the OEC Action Fund’s endorsement programs 
• Guide OEC Action Fund’s communications with endorsed candidates and candidate support plans 
• Research and support fundraising efforts for the OEC Action Fund, OEC AF PAC, and Conservation Ohio
• Develop and present campaign plans and tactics for partners and possible funders 
• Create communications content, including social media, emails, press releases, and graphics 
• Support basic administrative and communications needs for the political department 
• Contributing to OEC’s efforts to integrate racial justice and equity into the work we do to ensure a more inclusive environmental movement in Ohio
• Performing other related duties as required and assigned

Qualifications:

• Required Work Experience: This is an entry-level position. Preference will be given to candidates with 1-2 cycles of experience in political campaigns (in a paid or volunteer capacity). 
• Additional Skills: Demonstrate the ability to answer research questions efficiently and with precision; well-organized; thorough & detail-oriented; understand how to work independently and in a team; and manage multiple projects at once while delivering quality results. Possess the initiative and skills required to become a successful representative of the organization. Preferred skills: Familiarity with Votebuilder, campaign finance research, fundraising, political communications, persuasive writing, G-suite, Canva, and political news sources.

Additional details:

Pay for this full-time, temporary position is $39,000-$42,900 annually. This is a Columbus-based position working in our Columbus office. Our office currently has a hybrid work policy that requires in-person work on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. We occasionally have in-person staff meetings on Mondays that also require in-office presence.

The Fellow must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends and be willing to occasionally travel in Ohio and nationally.

The Ohio Environmental Council seeks a full-time Director of Water Equity to take our water access and affordability work to the next level. The Director of Water Equity will serve as the organization’s expert on laws, regulations, needs, and barriers to provide safe, affordable drinking water to all Ohioans. The Director will advocate for the passage and implementation of strong policies through partnerships, campaign coordination, media work, and lobbying.

The Director will work to foster relationships with community leaders, utility leaders, decision-makers, businesses, and the water advocacy community. Responsibilities

Reporting to the Managing Director of Water Policy and Chief of Organizational Planning, the Director will:

• Demonstrate thought leadership in the national movement for affordable and clean water by developing cutting-edge, well-researched, and pragmatic solutions to improve water justice and equity in Ohio. 
• Lead in identifying solutions to water access and affordability issues and advancing equitable investment in water infrastructure through writing, speaking, facilitating discussion, and forging partnerships.
• Research issues, write policy initiatives, and provide expert opinions related to water affordability and water infrastructure. 
• Provide policy analysis to support the Managing Director of Water Policy and the Chief of Staff in educating local, state and federal elected officials. 
• Develop, execute, and coordinate initiatives, strategies, and tactics to advance the water policies outlined in the OEC’s strategic plan. 
• Work with legal, advocacy, campaigns, and communications staff along with partners, media, and activists on a range of effective tactics.
• Work with the OEC Action Fund to advance water affordability legislation and promote water champions at the local, state, and federal levels.
• Raise the profile of the organization in the water equity space, including communicating with funders, building new partnerships, and participating in forums and conferences on water justice and equity. 
• Fulfill organizational responsibilities including: attending board meetings; managing foundation relationships; and ensuring grant deliverables are met.
• Shares our commitment to increasing racial diversity in the environmental movement and for our organization, integrating justice and equity into the work we do and contributing to an inclusive organizational culture. 

Qualifications

• Experience in advocacy, community organizing, local leadership, or government affairs.
• Knowledge or expertise in the areas of water equity, water security/water access, and water affordability. A demonstrated commitment to environmental justice.
• A track record of success designing and delivering results on water policy, environmental justice policy or environmental-adjacent programs and plans.
• Excellent communication and public speaking skills with ability to communicate with diverse individuals across the political spectrum.

Compensation & Location

Green Umbrella is seeking a full-time Visual Communications Associate to provide graphic design, videography, and video editing talent to the organization. This new role will enable the organization to more effectively market our programmatic work and areas of impact in order to improve sustainability and climate resilience in the Greater Cincinnati region.

The Visual Communications Associate will join our growing communications team to help visually communicate the story of Green Umbrella and its 5 in-house programs. This early-career position is both technical and creative, and requires extreme attention to detail and the ability to manage many moving parts across numerous platforms. The ideal applicant for this role will be excited to update and maintain graphic and visual consistency across our organization’s platforms, and lead video content creation on behalf of the organization. This role is heavily geared toward digital marketing and content production and prioritizes graphic design and video editing.

Green Umbrella is seeking a full-time Operations and CRM Associate to provide CRM (customer relationship management) records management, accounting clerk, and administrative support to assist in completing tasks that allow the organization to function seamlessly. The Operations and CRM Associate will help coordinate office support tasks to ensure that the team and organization functions efficiently. This role will report to Green Umbrella’s Operations Director and be a part of the “Core team” for the organization, which supports all our programs. The Operations and CRM Associate will work in-person at our office in the Digital Futures Building at 3080 Exploration Ave.
