On May 18th 2026, the federal government opened a 30-day public comment period on its proposal to lease parts of the Wayne National Forest for fracking.
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM)’s proposed September lease sale includes 41 parcels totaling nearly 2,800 acres of public lands in southeastern Ohio.
Public comment deadline: June 17, 2026
The leasing project webpage includes documentation and a link to the public comment portal. The OEC has drafted sample public comment materials to draw from. Personalized comments that draw from your experience of what the National Forest means to you and how fracking has and will impact your life and your community are always the most meaningful, but please feel free to use the comments and talking points we’ve drafted to help guide your own response.
We have beaten back unlawful attempts to frack Ohio’s only National Forest in the past. Together, we can defeat this unlawful proposal as well.
Thank you for taking action!
