Northwest Ohio is home to a diverse landscape, including some of the state’s most productive farmland, important industry, and critical wildlife refuges.
OEC’s work in Northwest Ohio has traditionally focused on efforts to secure clean water — from source to tap. Agricultural runoff contributes to annual harmful algal blooms in Lake Erie’s Western Basin which threaten drinking water, recreational opportunities, and Ohio’s economy. In fact, in 2014, half a million people lost access to clean drinking water for nearly three days due to toxic algae.
We are grateful for community partners in Northwest Ohio who continue to advocate for local policies to support clean water and climate action.
