OEC Celebrates Biden Administration’s Historic Day of Climate Action
Columbus, OH— Following President Joe Biden’s executive actions on climate today, the Ohio Environmental Council has issued the following statement.
The following quote can be attributed in full or in part to Heather Taylor-Miesle, Executive Director of the Ohio Environmental Council:
“This is what leadership looks like. Today’s historic executive actions demonstrate the Biden administration’s unwavering commitment to bold climate action that centers on environmental justice, restores the role of science-based decision making, creates good-paying jobs, and protects our environment.
“Federal leadership to address the global climate crisis will have a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of Ohioans and our environment. We celebrate the administration’s commitment to accelerate clean electricity production as well as address unchecked methane emissions and other pollutants. These efforts will not only reduce harmful air pollution in the Buckeye State, but will also support our growing clean energy economy. We applaud the administration’s commitment to protect 30 percent of our lands and oceans by 2030 which could help preserve Ohio’s natural areas and public lands, including the Wayne National Forest. And at the heart of these critical climate actions, we celebrate the Biden administration’s commitment to environmental justice and plans to direct significant investments into communities most affected by climate change, pollution, and racial injustice.
“President Biden and Vice President Harris ran on the strongest climate and environmental justice platform ever advanced by a presidential ticket. Just one week into their term, the administration is fulfilling its decisive mandate to build a healthier and more equitable future for all. We’re proud to work with the administration and alongside our partners to secure that vision.”
