OEC Response to Governor DeWine’s Commitment to Lake Erie
Columbus, OH—Today kicked off the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River Governors and Premiers Summit in Milwaukee, WI. Governor DeWine reconfirmed Ohio’s commitment to the 40% reduction of phosphorus flowing into Lake Erie by 2025.
The following statement can be attributed in whole or part to Kristy Meyer, Vice President of Natural Resources Policy:
“We applaud Governor DeWine for recommitting to reducing phosphorus by 40% by 2025 with his colleagues, Governor Whitmer and Premier Ford. Governor DeWine signing this pledge signals once again the health of Lake Erie is incredibly important to him and the state of Ohio. This goal setting pledge and the proposed state H2Ohio funding would go a long way to reducing harmful algal blooms. We look forward to working with the Governor to implement additional educational and legislative tools to achieve this goal to protect and restore the health of Lake Erie, a source of drinking water for approximately 3 million people and more than $14 billion tourism industry.”
