OEC & PCFO Applaud Clean, Renewable Energy Investment Planned in Northwest Ohio
Toledo, OH — On Wednesday, Toledo City Council approved plans to move forward with a newly planned utility-scale solar array in northwest Ohio, along with Lucas County and other area communities. Collectively through the Northwest Ohio Aggregation Coalition (NOAC), partners are looking to purchase up to 25 percent of their electric power through clean, renewable energy. NOAC intends to construct a large utility-scale solar array in northwest Ohio to satisfy these energy needs.
The following statement can be attributed in full, or in part, to Miranda Leppla, Vice President of Energy Policy for the Ohio Environmental Council (OEC):
“Earlier this week, we saw Columbus voters overwhelmingly approve Issue 1, moving the city to 100 percent clean, renewable energy. This collective action by communities in Northwest Ohio is another example of Ohio cities and towns choosing to transition away from dirty, harmful energy sources and toward a clean, renewable energy future that benefits our health while combating the impacts of climate change.
“While Ohio’s state legislature continues to impede the growth of the renewable energy sector, local communities like Columbus and Toledo are stepping up to lead the way by investing in our future. The OEC applauds Toledo, Lucas County, and other Northwest Ohio communities for their commitment to help lead Ohio’s transition to a clean energy economy.”
The following statement can be attributed in full, or in part, to Joe Flarida, Executive Director of Power a Clean Future Ohio:
“We are seeing an important turning point for the clean energy economy in Ohio through the action of cities. Toledo has the opportunity to further demonstrate its leadership in creating clean energy jobs and reducing emissions through this exciting local project. Solar installations create jobs, boost local revenue, and provide clean, affordable power to residents and businesses. Power a Clean Future Ohio applauds the action of Toledo City Council and Mayor Kapszukiewicz. Local leadership is building Ohio’s clean energy future and we are proud to support them every step of the way.”
