OEC Participates in Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Site Tour with Local Leaders
Columbus, OH — The Ohio Environmental Council, in partnership with Junction Coalition and Metroparks Toledo, brought together a room of Ohio water quality experts to visit key investment areas from the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) and H2Ohio investments across Northwest Ohio. A group of water quality champions joined the group, including U.S. Representative Marcy Kaptur (OH-09), staff from U.S. Senators Bernie Moreno and Jon Husted’s office, Ohio State Senator Paula Hicks-Hudson (OH-11), Ohio State Representatives Dan Troy (OH-23), and Erika White (OH-41), and Toledo City Council President Carrie Hartman.
The group toured Metroparks Toledo’s Howard Marsh and Secor Metropark restoration areas, showcasing the remarkable achievements made possible by GLRI and H2Ohio funding. These sites exemplify how state and federal support effectively transform the Great Lakes region.
The following quote can be attributed, in whole or in part, to Carol Kauffman, Chief Executive Officer of the Ohio Environmental Council (OEC):
“Lake Erie serves as a vital source of drinking water for more than 3 million residents. Strategic state investments in the protection and restoration of this essential resource are not only safeguarding its health but also delivering significant benefits to communities across the region.
“The Great Lakes Restoration Initiative is evidence of achievements that have been made and could continue to be made in Ohio, resulting in cleaner waterways and healthier communities. Continued support for this initiative is vital to preserve these achievements and ensure a sustainable future for the Great Lakes.”
