Columbus, OH—On June 26, 2025, the Ohio Power Siting Board approved the 120-megawatt Frasier Solar project, located in Knox County, Ohio. The decision marks a key milestone in advancing Ohio’s commitment to clean energy and environmental stewardship. This solar project will help address increasing demand on the grid, ensuring that Ohio can benefit from reliable, affordable clean energy.
Decision Highlights:
- The OEC presented three witnesses in the case, who collectively illustrated the benefit of solar for mitigating climate change, outlined the cost of climate change to local communities in Knox County, and reviewed of the substance of public comments submitted in the case. The Board included a summary of this evidence in its decision to approve the Frasier Solar project.
- The Ohio Power Siting Board’s decision emphasized the importance of the “public’s interest in a power siting project that ensures continued utility services and the prosperity of the state of Ohio.” It concluded that “the Facility will add low-cost electricity to the state of Ohio’s supply of energy for decades to come.”
The following quote can be attributed, in whole or in part, to Karin Nordstrom, OEC Clean Energy Attorney:
“Today’s approval of the Frasier Solar project is a transformative moment for Knox County and for Ohio’s clean energy future. The Ohio Power Siting Board’s decision comes at a time of increasing demand on the grid and concerns from Ohio’s leaders about adequate energy generation in the state.
This ruling recognizes the overwhelming benefits this project brings to local communities such as substantial investments in schools and public services—and continues responsible, community-focused renewable energy development in Ohio. With innovative agrivoltaic practices which allow solar energy generation and sheep grazing to thrive together, Frasier Solar stands as a model for how clean energy can support both our environment and our rural economy, while making our grid more reliable. Through projects like Frasier Solar, Ohio is taking a bold step toward reducing air pollution and combating climate change, ensuring a healthier, more sustainable future for generations to come.”
The Board’s official decision regarding Frasier Solar is available on its website.
