OEC Statement on the Trump Administration’s plans to undercut National Environmental Policy Act
Columbus, OH — Today, the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) announced that federal agencies will no longer be required to consider “cumulative” climate change impacts when considering federal projects under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Additionally, the CEQ announced that fewer projects will be required to undergo environmental impact studies.
The following statement can be attributed in full, or in part, to Sarah Spence, Director of Climate Programs for the Ohio Environmental Council:
“The Trump Administration’s short-sighted decision to undercut the National Environmental Policy Act and deny the cumulative impact projects have on our climate is disgraceful.
“President Trump and his administration continue to roll back critical environmental regulations that are designed to protect the health of our planet and our people. Addressing the climate crisis is a problem that cannot wait. The President should lead on climate action and protect our environment instead of recklessly gutting regulatory safeguards.”
