OEC and OEC Workers United Finalize Collective Bargaining Agreement

Columbus, OH — OEC and OEC Workers United have finalized contract negotiations and ratified a three-year agreement as of June 13, 2020.

OEC workers successfully voted to unionize in August 2019. OEC leadership voluntarily recognized the union and began work with OEC Workers United, represented by SEIU-affiliate Chicago and Midwest Regional Joint Board (CMRJB) Workers United, on its first collective bargaining agreement. The agreement can be viewed here.

The following statement can be attributed to the Ohio Environmental Council:

“Our contract recognizes the important work OEC staff members do every day to secure healthy air, land, and water for all who call Ohio home and empowers staff to have a larger voice at the decision-making table.

“The OEC is a proud, long-term partner of labor unions. Unions make our world better and the labor movement has been central to major advancements in the protection of people and the environment. We are proud to work with OEC Workers United to build an even stronger and more sustainable environmental movement and continue to successfully tackle Ohio’s most pressing environmental issues.”

The following statement can be attributed to OEC Workers United:

“This is an exciting step forward, not only for us, but for Ohio’s environmental and progressive movement as a whole. By coming together in solidarity, we are building a more just, equitable, and sustainable climate movement, guaranteeing that we can fight the climate crisis for years to come.”

“We are glad to conclude the bargaining process and look forward to our contract further supporting our organization’s longstanding history of standing up for fairness, diversity, transparency, and Ohio’s environment.”
